Notes: This itinerary full of natural interest takes you on a path to discover the lesser-known part of the Chianti with stops at important artistic-historical sites like the Castle of Paneretta (10th century), the romanesque parish church of Cedda, the Castle of Strozzavolpe and the castle-village of Talciona (10th century), an important stop for pilgrims in the Middle Ages along the Via Francigena. From a technical point of view the path is difficult in that it has constant inclines and declines, though the relatively short course allows bikers to take their time with the hills.

Depart from Castellina and at the intersection of the main streets, SS 222 and SS 429, take the asphalted road towards San Donato pedalling up hill along the trail of Macia Morta which offers panoramic views of the Val d'Elsa and Poggibonsi. After about 3.5km the road begins to descend and then a steep decline begins: at this point you need to pay attention for the left turn which will take you towards Olena (about 6kms from Castellina.)

Continue along the gravel road, through the town of Olena, near a fountain with drinkable water and then turn left again where you will be confronted with a brief but difficult piece of road. When you arrive at thee large oak tree, turn left again until you arrive at a white street: turn right here through an area of vineyards, mediterranean brush and pine, beech and oak trees. After 3km the asphalted road begins again and you continue towards the Castle of Paneretta and the town of Monsanto before arriving at the bottom of the valley crossing the Siena-Firenze superstrada. The descent ends here at the level of an old abandoned construction. Turn left on a white street that, shortly after, forks. Stay to the right and get ready to confront a major ascent to arrive at the village of Somano and, after another kilometre, the asphalt road of SS 429.

Continue to the left, heading slightly uphill towards Castellina past the romanesque parish church of Cedda (which is worth a visit.) About 2.5km after taking SS429, near the Melini vineyards where the woods start again, leave the asphalt again and take the gravel road on the right following directions for the La Moraia agritourism.

Pedal along this path until you arrive at Talciona (with a great view of the Strozzavolpe Castle), a village which is known for its parish church. Another full kilometre downhill and then turn left on the asphalt road following the directions for Belvedere. Here the difficult climb begins, about 10 kilometres on a gravel road until you reach Castellina.

Note: Itinerario di grande interesse paesaggistico che va a scoprire il Chianti meno noto passando per luoghi di grande interesse storico artistico come il castello di Paneretta (X sec.), la pieve romanica di Cedda, il castello di Strozzavolpe e il borgo - castello di Talciona (X sec.), importante punto tappa dei pellegrini che nel medioevo percorrevano la via Francigena. Da un punto di vista tecnico il percorso si presenta impegnativo in quanto è un saliscendi continuo anche se il chilometraggio consente di prendersela comoda.

Si parte da Castellina e nel punto in cui le strade principali S.S. 222 e S.S. 429 si intersecano si imbocca la strada asfaltata in direzione San Donato pedalando in salita sul tracciato di Macia Morta che si affaccia con vedute panoramiche sulla Val d'Elsa e Poggibonsi. Dopo circa 3,5 km la strada comincia a perdere quota e poi inizia una ripida discesa; a questo punto si deve fare molta attenzione e girare sinistra al bivio per Olena (circa 6 km da Castellina).
 

Si procede su strada sterrata e, attraversata la frazione di Olena, in prossimità di una fonte con acqua potabile, si piega ancora a sinistra dove si affronta un tratto impegnativo (breve). Arrivati nei pressi di una grande quercia si piega ancora a sinistra fino ad incrociare una strada bianca: qui si gira a destra attraversando una zona in cui i vigneti si alternano alla macchia mediterranea e a boschi di abeti, pini e querce. Dopo 3 km ricomincia l'asfalto e si continua passando per il castello di Paneretta e la località Monsanto per raggiungere il fondovalle attraversato dalla superstrada Siena - Firenze. Dove finisce la discesa, all'altezza di una vecchia costruzione abbandonata, si imbocca a sinistra una strada bianca pianeggiante che, poco dopo, si biforca: mantenersi sulla destra e prepararsi ad affrontare la salita caratterizzata da un fondo sconnesso per raggiungere il vicino borgo di Sornano e, dopo 1 km, l'asfalto della S.S. 429.
 

Si prosegue a sinistra in leggera salita in direzione Castellina passando nei pressi della pieve romanica di Cedda che merita una visita e, dopo 2,5 km dall'innesto sulla S.S. 429, nei pressi dell'azienda vinicola Melini, dove ricomincia il bosco, si lascia nuovamente l'asfalto per imboccare la sterrata sulla destra seguendo le indicazioni per l'agriturismo "La Moraia".
 

Si pedala lungo questo tracciato fino alla frazione di Talciona (bella la vista sul castello di Strozzavolpe), borgo caratterizzato dall'omonima pieve. Ancora 1 km abbondante di discesa e poi si gira a sinistra su strada asfaltata seguendo l'indicazione Belvedere. Comincia qui la salita abbastanza impegnativa su fondo sterrato (circa 10 km) fino a Castellina.

150 anni unità d'Italia: celebrazioni nel Chianti

BARBERINO VAL D'ELSA:

Barberino festeggia i 150 anni dell'Unità Nazionale con due giorni di incontri, mostre e spettacoli dedicati alla Storia d'Italia.

Giovedì 17 marzo, Festa Nazionale dell'Unità d'Italia, alle ore 18.00 presso il Foyer del Teatro Corsini verrà inaugurata la mostra fotografica di Paolo Menchetti Sogniritratti, ritratti di Barberinesi che hanno scelto un particolare oggetto per raccontarsi davanti all'obiettivo. 32 volti e 32 oggetti per riflettere sul significato intimo e personale della vita, sottolineando le speranze ed i sogni che ognuno può racchiudere in un solo oggetto che in certi casi nasconde la bellezza profonda di un antico sapere. In quell'oggetto l'uomo distilla i suoi sogni, conferisce le sue speranze per una vita migliore.

I festeggimanenti proseguiranno venerdì 18 marzo con lo spettacolo di Mario Perrotta della Compagnia Teatro dell'Argine Italiani Cincali: Minatori in Belgio.

La Filarmonica G. Verdi di Marcialla, eseguirà l'Inno Nazionale davanti al Tricolore alle ore 10.00, di fronte al Comune.

Alle ore 21.30 presso il Cinema Olimpia la Corale di S. Lucia al Borghetto, presenterà il 'Concerto per i 150 anni dell'Unità d'Italia'.

GREVE IN CHIANTI:

Un torneo di giochi tra le frazioni del Comune, musica, vino e panini, letture di brani storici, esibizioni di street dance, e tanti tricolori. Greve celebrerà così, con una festa in Piazza Vassallo dalle 15 alle 21, i centocinquant’anni dell’Unità d’Italia. Il tutto organizzato dagli speaker di Radio Chianti Web, che condurranno la giornata e guideranno le 6 squadre rappresentative delle frazioni comunali attraverso giochi sportivi, musicali, di cultura generale e di costume.

SAN CASCIANO VAL DI PESA:

In occasione della Festa nazionale dell’Unità d’Italia, giovedì 17 marzo alle ore 10, è in programma l’Alzabandiera.

Saranno presenti le autorità istituzionali e il Gruppo Promotore Scout. Alle 11, nella sala conferenza della biblioteca comunale il sindaco Massimiliano Pescini e il direttore di Metropoli Fabrizio Nucci presenteranno la pubblicazione realizzata da Metropoli “Dal Chianti alla nazione” a cura di Francesco Fusi. Alle 12 i festeggiamenti proseguono, sempre in biblioteca, con la cerimonia ufficiale alla presenza degli amministratori e dei consiglieri comunali. Ad incorniciare l’evento l’inno nazionale di Mameli intonato dal coro Quod Libet.
La giornata di festa si conclude con il concerto organizzato dal Comune a sostegno dell’Associazione Italiana Sclerosi Laterale Amiotrofica (AISLA). “Musica senza frontiere pro Aisla” è il titolo del concerto che si terrà al Niccolini alle ore 21 (ingresso 15 euro).

CASTELNUOVO BERARDENGA:

Giovedì 17 marzo, le celebrazioni prenderanno il via alle ore 15, di fronte al Palazzo del Comune, dove la banda suonerà l'inno “Cavalcando Uniti per l’Italia” e si raduneranno un gruppo di cavalieri per eseguire una performance, a cura dell’associazione Quinquatrus. A seguire, nella Sala del Consiglio, verrà inaugurata la targa in ferro di Fabio Zacchei, in ricordo dei 150 anni dall'Unità d’Italia.

I veri protagonisti del compleanno del Paese saranno, però, i ragazzi della scuola media “G.Papini”, che al Teatro Alfieri daranno vita ad una speciale seduta del consiglio comunale, dove saranno messi in scena alcuni passaggi storici che hanno interessato Castelnuovo dal 1859 al 1862, sulla base del censimento coevo del Comune.

Italy, 150th anniversary: an historical plate, the "panzanella"

The green of the basil, white bread and the red of the tomato. The "panzanella", tipoical Italina bread salas,  has a natural vocation to represent the unification of Italy for its coulors. If you then add that in 1865 it was served by the statesman Bettino Ricasoli to the king of Italy Vittorio II during his visit in Chianti for a hunt, then the election is a must. This humble and simple dish made rivers of ink. A similar recipe was to be the "pan washed" already mentioned by Boccaccio. Many attribute the birth of true panzanella, the use of wet country and dry old bread (the bread was baked once a week) and mix it with the vegetables that were readily available in the garden. Another school of thought argues that the panzanella born on board fishing boats, where the sailors were preparing a meal fast wetting with sea water of hard bread and some vegetables. The term according to some panzanella, bread comes from the words and Zanella (conchino, deep dish or bowl), according to others by the word "lie" which originally meant jelly. In the sixteenth century there was even who sang its praises: "Who wants to pierce on the stars en'tinga bread to eat and Tirapelle a salad of chopped onion glue and porcellanetta citriuoli defeats all other pleasures of life considered a bit 's'aggiungessi basil and arugula. " These are words of impeccable portrait painter Agnolo Bronzino, who made his fortune at the court de 'Medici in an environment in which the staging and the label were key elements of the life of society. He does not mention speaking of panzanella tomatoes, still do not use as of the time, but lists the porcellanetta grass rustic forgotten today. In 1865 a historic panzanella would be served in the ancient castle of Brolio the statistics Bettino Ricasoli to the King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele, who had arrived in Chianti for a hunting party. The panzanella was prepared with the classic ingredients: green basil, white bread, red tomatoes. They were thus served the colors of Italy.
